- What do I get from vassals?
- Vassals don’t work like annexed provinces. You get only gold from them.
- Annex and turn into a vassal – what is the difference?
- Annexed provinces are just like your first village – you can develop them by constructing buildings, hiring workers, exacting taxes and recruiting army. Vassals can give you just gold from taxes.
- A vassal or an annexed province? Which one should I choose?
- It is always better to have annexed provinces rather than vassals – you get more resources, you can develop them, build stuff, recruit army, etc. The vassal is a good option when you don’t have a vacant Centralization level to annex a province.
- What is a boxed province?
- An inner province marked with red outlines on the Imperial map which shares a border only with annexed provinces. Boxing causes 20 points morale drop for the attacker. A province cannot be double-boxed.
- How can I box a province?
- By annexing all provinces it shares a border with.
- Do vassals count for boxing a province?
- No, only annexed provinces do.
- My province doesn’t produce. Why is that?
- You either don’t have hired workers in it, or your efficiency is equal or lower than 0%, or your province is in a riot or a rebellion.
- What is riot and how can I fix it?
- A condition in an annexed province, vassal and colony, caused by population's dissatisfaction and low local Happiness value. When the Happiness drops below 50, there is a chance for a riot increasing progressively by 2% with every Happiness point (e.g. at 49 points with 2%, at 48 point with 4% and so on), leading to tax exacting block until Happiness is increased above 50 again. Keep in mind that riots are removed on next Council of Principals.
- What is a rebellion and how can I fix it?
- Annexed province, vassal and Colony condition, caused by population dissatisfaction due to low local Happiness value. When the Happiness drops below 20, there is a chance for a rebellion, increasing progressively by 2% with every Happiness point (e.g. at 19 points with 2%, at 18 point with 4% and so on), which could lead to a production suspension, no recruitment and no constructions, until Happiness is increased above 20 again. Keep in mind that rebellions are removed on next Council of Principals.
- I annexed a province with 1 level lower Fortress than the espionage report showed. Why is that?
- All provinces are annexed with one level lower Fortress except for the provinces with Fortress 1.
- Do the terrain bonuses and penalties affect only me?
- They do, except for the Cavalry and Range attack modifiers which affect both, attacker and defender.
- How can I transport resources?
- You need a Depot station in both, incoming and outgoing province. The resources are called and not sent, so you need to be in the incoming province in order to transport resources to it. You can do so via Imperial transport tab of the Depot station building or by clicking on the fast transport buttons above the village.
- Can I double box a province so that the attacker could lose 40 morale?
- No.
- What is efficiency?
- It measures the strength/intensity a province produces with. Efficiency is applicable solely to annexed provinces and colonies; Vassals have 100% efficiency by default. Every following annexed province produces 10% less resources compared with the previous one, that’s why without Bureaucracy effect the 11th annexed province has efficiency 0% and every single province annexed after it is 10% less efficient, representing the respective negative value. Each Bureaucracy level raises the production efficiency by 5% without getting it above 100%. Great People with Bureaucrat skill adds bonus efficiency depending on the level of the skill.
- How can I attack and loot my independent cities on the Global Map?
- Open the Global Map. Click on a city you wish to attack. First select the Spy option so you could spy and simulate the battle. See if you win at more than 50 morale. If you do so, send an attack from the espionage report or again by opening the Global Map, clicking on the respective city and selecting the Attack option.

- How do I cancel a province?
- Annexed provinces cannot be canceled. Once annexed, they are yours until the end of the era. You can cancel vassal provinces though.
